Build your own Tele Presence Robot: |
Now it's time to put all the pieces together and take the robot for a spin.
This is how it will look, plus the PC camera (not shown - mounts on the velcro pads on top of the remote control): | |
| Velcros and more
velcros:
Step 1 - Find 3 good points between the bottom of the laptop and the top of the Roomba to apply some velcro pads. Carefull not to obstruct buttons, serial numbers, or any other spot that you think is important. Here is what my Roomba looks like:
Step 2 - Velcro the remote control to the laptop. TIP: the robot will work with the laptop cover in the OPENED and also in the CLOSED position, IF you position the remote properly. Place the remote so that the Roomba's round infrared sensor can see the remote's infrared LEDs, as shown in the second photo of this page. Step 3 - Velcro the parallel port interface circuitry to the laptop cover. Step 4 - Install a PC camera. I installed mine right on top of the Roomba remote control, so it would stay centered with the robot. Step 5 - Load the software. Step 6 - Have fun!!!
